2023 Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Cabinet “Karat”

My single plot in the Bernkasteler Badstube is taking a completely new direction this year. While it was still known for its seductively fruity sweetness in 2022, here is its dry counterpart. This means that the vines' expression and the depth of this unique microclimate have not been lost in any way.

"Karat" impresses with its elegance and diversity. The bouquet begins with apples and Williams pears alongside stone fruits such as mirabelle plums. It achieves freshness thanks to juicy grapefruit and ripe citrus notes. "Karat" encompasses a wide range of aromas, including Francophile notes from the self-contained malolactic fermentation in wooden barrels. Paired with the minerality and the stony, almost salty, piquant components of the "ancient" vines, this results in a profoundly unique wine.
